Prison Law Project

Founded: September 8, 2010

Location: Denver, Colorado

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit civil rights law firm dedicated to ensuring that prisoners in Colorado prisons and jails are housed in a humane and rehabilitative environment, ending correctional practices that are detrimental to the health and safety of prisoners and Coloradans alike, and reforming the federal and Colorado criminal justice systems by advocating for change of correctional policies and practices that perpetuate high rates of recidivism and create barriers to reentry. We are particularly concerned with the overuse of long-term segregation, especially the proliferation of "supermax" prisons, with a lack of accountability in disciplinary procedures, and with the unique challenges faced by women prisoners, including sexual abuse and reproductive health and freedom.
